Dr. Wayne S. Maxson is a native of Abington, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey, and a Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Duke University. Following training, he was a faculty member at Vanderbilt University for five years.

Dr. Maxson left Vanderbilt University to come to South Florida in 1986 where he formed the Northwest Center for Infertility and Reproductive Endocrinology (NCIRE) in association with Columbia Northwest Medical Center. He initiated a highly successful in vitro fertilization (IVF) program which has been expanded to include many other assisted reproductive technologies and is now referred to as IVF Florida. In addition, he established state-of-the-art diagnostic andrology and endocrine assay laboratories.
